This Week in NDSA – Digitizing Audio Reels!

This Week in NDSA, Digital Liaison Mike Dutkewych used the SLIS Digital Media Projects Lab to digitize several quarter-inch audio reels on loan from the Walter P. Reuther Library.

These tapes were recorded in the 1970s. Their contents included oral history interviews documenting the African-American perspective of the 1943 Detroit riots, and local lore from the Cass Corridor and Delray neighborhoods.

Mike used the lab’s Ampex ATR-100 reel-to-reel tape deck and Audacity 2.1 audio editing software to digitize the analog media into uncompressed WAV audio for future use by the Reuther.
